Monday

Peach Cobbler

It is not until you get to the reverse of this recipe that you find out this is a peach cobbler. I thought usually cobblers were baked with the fruit, rather than added later. Oh well, we are assured it is “delicious served warm”, which is good enough for me!

Friday

Lemon Sponge Pudding

Since this recipe only mentions the oven temperature as “moderate” a search of similar recipes online reveals the temp should be 325 to 350 degrees for 35 to 45 minutes. I’m a sucker for lemon treats but not much of a fan of pudding. Still, I think I would have to give this one a try.

Wednesday

Banana Tapioca Cream

Curious about tapioca because of the flurry of recent recipes containing the ingredient I looked it up online. I found it is the starch from the root of the cassava shrub, which originated in Brazil but is now cultivated all over the planet. I usually use it to thicken soups.

Monday

Minute Tapioca Cream Recipes

These Minute Tapioca Cream recipes, cut from a magazine, almost look like they were put together by throwing a dart at a wall of ingredients and choosing the first few that are hit. How else can you explain something that contains green coconut and mint jelly?

Friday

Apple Krisps

I bet this recipe was a big hit on a chilly fall day. It would be hard to resist a scoop of ice cream on your slice of apple krisp, despite the weather.

Wednesday

Baked Cocoa Custard

Yet another food I have not heard of. The baking instructions are interesting, calling for the mixture filled cups to be placed in a pan of water. The “slow oven” mentioned was usually 300 to 325 degrees for similar recipes I found online.

Monday

Tomato Relish

It seems like tomato relish has been replaced in this country by its spicier cousin salsa, at least here in the Midwest. This relish would be perfect to cook up and keep a in the refrigerator for picnics and cookouts as an alternative to pickle relish.

Friday

Bread and Butter Cucumber Pickles

I prefer hot and spicy dill and polish pickles, so if I were to prepare this recipe for sweet bread and butter pickles I would have to add some peppers such as jalapenos. Since this recipe does not include detailed canning instructions I included this link that should help.

Wednesday

Raisin Cream Pie

Before coming across this recipe I had never heard of a raisin cream pie, but it doesn’t sound bad. I have a question about the process of making this pie that maybe one of you could explain to me. Why does it call for mixing the egg yolks, milk, etc. with eggs?

Monday

Lemon Meringue Pie

Milk, lots of lemon, sugar and eggs. Maybe a little more lemon, then a pie shell. It doesn’t get much simpler than a lemon meringue pie.

Friday

Apple Pie

Since this recipe does not include any instructions for making a crust one could assume it is a crustless version of apple pie. Slap a scoop of ice cream on a piece and you probably wouldn’t even notice.

Wednesday

The Menu

This is obviously not a recipe but a menu for a holiday feast or a family get together. I wonder if the two sides of the card were intended for two separate occasions or one big one. It is also possible these menus were part of an exercise for a child. There are multiple misspellings, the cards are numbered for some reason, and we have already found out there might have been a Camp Fire Girl in the house.

Monday

Pumpkin Pie

There is not much to say about this recipe, as it seems to make a pretty standard pumpkin pie, which is just fine if you like pumpkin pie!
