Next up is this section of a folded booklet. The pages are
attached but I had to scan them separately, so pages one and two back each
other and are connected to backing pages 47 and 48. All the rest of the booklet
is missing. It was obviously a promotion for Spry Vegetable Shortening,
picturing the SPRY KITCHEN packed with trained Home Economists practicing
scientific cookery procedures. Since none of the recipes are circled or marked
we can’t know for sure which ones prompted the owner to keep just these pages,
but considering how many desserts have been found in the old recipe box my best
guess would be the coffeecake recipe was picked to join the
others.

Muffins
Once again, I needed help deciphering a recipe card. I could
not figure out what the B.P. stood for in this one. As usual, when I asked my
wife she knew the answer immediately. It’s baking powder. The recipe is pretty
straight forward, but the muffins would be anything but plain if your grandma
made them for you. She would also know how hot a “hot oven” should be.
